"I became a Lifetime Partner because I have always believed in animal protection and as I researched the work that PCRM did for animals and humans, I knew I had to help in some way. Plus, Dr. Barnard and PCRM saved my life! My mother had had hereditary high cholesterol and had survived 3 different cancers; my father had been an insulin-dependent diabetic and suffered with heart disease. My older brother still suffers with diabetes and is insulin dependent. For too many years, I struggled with high cholesterol, high blood pressure and diabetes. I was also overweight. About 20 years ago, I attended my first PCRM Food For Life class series for cancer, offered through my employer, Lee County School District. While I enjoyed the food prepared for us and learned a lot about the health aspects of adopting a whole food plant-based diet, I wasn't yet ready/willing to fully commit. Then I was diagnosed with diabetes and prescribed 2 different oral medications. About 13 years ago when I was 58, after also attending additional Food For Life classes for diabetes, I attended a 3-day workshop from the American Diabetes Association. After completing this, I was given a copy of Dr. Neal Barnard's Program for Reversing Diabetes. This book explained the health and nutritional information I needed in a way I could understand. In it, he encouraged me to "try it for 3 weeks." I figured, I could do anything for 3 weeks...then go back to my way of eating. I would miss my cheese and seafood the most. Little did I know! After 3 weeks, I had lost 25 pounds, reduced dosages on most of my medications and felt more energized than I had in years! With little to no support but much teasing and ridicule from friends, I faltered and saw the return of the pounds, the need for increased meds, and the lethargy. I remember saying to myself, “This is ridiculous! You know this works for you. How can you give control away to others when you've seen positive results?” I went back to the vegan diet and committed to it. After 6 months and at another appointment with my doctor he shook my hand with this huge grin on his face, reviewed the results of my bloodwork with me, and said, "Whatever you're doing, keep doing it!" He took me off all medications except the cholesterol and reduced me to once a year bloodwork reviews. All told, I had lost about 65 pounds, felt great, and became more of an advocate for adopting a vegan lifestyle than ever before. I even use vegan hair, skin and cleaning products! I attribute the positive changes in my life to PCRM. We need to continue to save animals' lives and human health through plant-based eating and the health of our planet."

“I have had a great respect for PCRM for many years and appreciate its multi-faceted approach to saving the lives of animals and people by focusing on health and science. PCRM works to fill an awful gap in medical care—widespread lack of knowledge among physicians about nutrition, plant-based nutrition in particular, to prevent the primary risk factors for human morbidity and mortality. As an animal advocate, I love that PCRM works diligently to eliminate animals from medical and scientific research. I also especially appreciate that PCRM is assertive about reaching out to people of African & Hispanic descent (#BreakUpWithBacon was simply the most clever campaign slogan ever!).”

“I’m incredibly inspired by PCRM’s work to protect animals. I feel that animals in labs and animals used for experimentation have almost zero voice and I want to be a part of shifting that.”

“We decided to establish a $20,000 annuity to invest in PCRM’s future, as this organization is one of the most powerful game changers in the world of policy change for animal rights and improvement in human health through a vegan diet. It was a great investment for us also; a good rate of return and a good tax deduction. We had never before investigated an annuity, and PCRM staff patiently walked us through the process, explaining options and sending examples of our choices so we could understand clearly and choose what worked best for our needs. But we did not realize until afterwards how great it would feel! PCRM resonates with our deepest values, and as we shared our decision with family and friends, we felt really proud of this win-win investment. It was a lot of money for us but works well with our retirement planning — and we will always be the better for it.”

"I support all of the work that PCRM does. I love the fact that everything is science based. I have been a vegetarian for 30 years and a vegan for 5 years. I made this bequest because I want to promote a healthy, ecologically sustainable and non-violent lifestyle even after I am gone. Dr. Barnard is a hero in my book! He and PCRM have saved so many lives, both animal and human with their work!"

“We had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Barnard almost 30 years ago and have been supporters of PCRM since then. Our support has been driven by our belief that truly ethical science does not allow for living, sentient beings to be needlessly sacrificed to better human health. So many health issues can be “treated” and “cured” by simply following a better diet that excludes animals. It’s actually pretty easy to do today and requires virtually no sacrifice on our part while sparing other beings from having to sacrifice everything they have. We have provided a prominent place for PCRM in our will and plan to continue to support this great organization during our lifetime. We urge anyone and everyone to look at the work that PCRM is doing and consider supporting them – it is very important.”
